Based in Campbell, California, Paired Power was founded in 2015 by Tom and Aaron McCalmont. The company was born out of the family’s solar engineering firm, McCalmont Engineering, which designs ~8% of the total solar project capacity in the U.S. each year.
Together, Aaron and Tom patented their direct-DC approach to EV charging via solar energy in 2018, and Paired Power has been a leading innovator in the space ever since.
Tom McCalmont
CEO & Cofounder
Tom McCalmont has over 24 years of solar, storage, and EV charging experience. Prior to Paired Power, Tom cofounded the respected solar engineering firm, McCalmont Engineering, that has designed gigawatts of solar projects in 40 U.S. states. Prior to that Tom was CEO and cofounder of Regrid Power, one of California’s earliest and most successful solar installation companies.
Tom has a demonstrated track record of creatively applying new technology to solving real world customer problems. He earned his MS degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and both Sc.D. and BS degrees from Muskingum University. Tom holds 18 U.S. patents and is a licensed Professional Engineer, a charter NABCEP-certified Solar PV Installer, and an EVITP-certified licensed electrical/solar contractor in California.
Aaron McCalmont
Cofounder & Technical Advisor
Aaron McCalmont has over 20 years’ experience in solar, storage, and EV charging. He is currently the Vice President of Engineering for McCalmont Engineering, where he leads the team that designs and delivers utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects throughout the U.S., and is skilled in efficiently developing construction plans for large-scale systems focused on lowest cost, maximum safety, and on-time delivery. Aaron is an experienced professional engineer licensed in over 40 U.S. states. He holds a BS degree in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University and an MBA degree from San Jose State University and is the holder of 3 U.S. patents.
Maxym Makhota
CTO
Maxym Makhota oversees Paired Power’s software and hardware architecture & engineering, data visualization, machine learning, and product roadmap. He was previously a cofounder and VP of Software Engineering at Tigo Energy (NASDAQ: TYGO), where over 15 years he helped grow it from a startup company to a respected worldwide solar module electronics manufacturer.
Maxym is an expert in systems design and architecture, data acquisition, data analysis, cross-platform development, industrial IoT, and security & certification. He earned his MS degree in computer science from the National University of Ukraine, and is the holder of 10 U.S. patents.
